The in-depth interview, a form of one-to-one qualitative research, is often used to reveal the potential motivation of a problem, idea, program and explore the interviewee’s attitudes towards it. The in-depth interview applies to a good understanding of a complex action, a sensitive subject. The conversation often take place among supervisors, specialists and goverment officials. During the interview, a well trained and experienced interviewer guides the whole conversation and tries to develop it. Unlike the structured interview, in-depth interview is a free and unstructured talk in which the conversation doesn’t proceed in form of questionnaires or in predefined order. The interviewer is asked to focus on the subject and follow the respondent’s answers so that he can think, analyse and prepare subsequent questions at the same time.

However, the right expert can’t be easily found and it costs a lot. Though the interviewer is professional, the results would be more or less influenced by his subjective judge. Usually, the questions asked to the interviewee progresse from easier ones to deeper ones. In the meantime, the interviewer finds better ways to ask sensitive questions. The interviewee must be seriously selected to become the right person from whom we can get more information. Considering the high cost of money and time, this form of research can’t be largely used in a research. If severals in-depth interviews are undertaken, it’s better that the interviewees come from different ranks , professions and ages. Thus, we are able to observe a problem from various angles and the results will be more credible.
